Things to Consider for Your Las Vegas Wedding Venue

Las Vegas is host to nearly 100,000 weddings per year making it one of the top wedding destinations in the world. The Clark County Marriage License Bureau is open until midnight every single day of the year. That’s early by a Las Vegas resident’s standard. Don’t let this place fool you, however. For all the amazing things it has to offer, there is also much to be aware of in terms of false advertising. If you’re planning on getting married here, here are some things to keep in mind.

Iconic Wedding Chapels

To be frank, many of the iconic wedding chapels in Vegas are not in the best part of town. If you want more detail, head over to Google Street View and see for yourself. If your aesthetic is retro, vintage, Elvis-themed, Vegas quickie wedding, then these places are perfect. While they’re located on Las Vegas Boulevard, they’re not on “The Strip”. Almost all of these chapels are located by each other on a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard past the Stratosphere tower (now called The STRAT). If you’re familiar with Vegas, you know that this area is mostly bail bond agencies, adult video stores, smoke shops, dive bars, and a few abandoned motels. Make sure you do your research so you’re not surprised when you show up for your ceremony or photoshoot.

Casinos on The Strip & Alternate Venues

Having your wedding in Vegas is convenient. It hosts a major international airport, diverse accommodations for every guest’s budget, and plenty of attractions for everyone before and after the ceremony. Nearly all the major casinos in Las Vegas have a wedding chapel and some of these are extremely nice venues. However, these can also be very expensive. A package at a high-end resort casino can run you tens of thousands of dollars for the most basic package. If these are outside your budget, consider a wedding “off The Strip”. Places like Red Rock, Green Valley Ranch, and the new Durango offer the convenience of a high-end hotel and resort casino, while being more affordable. There are multiple cities that make up the Las Vegas Metropolitan area, with luxury venues and picturesque desert scenery. Rustic, farm aesthetic? Research Boulder City, Mt. Charleston, or Cactus Joe’s near Blue Diamond, NV. Desert, but with a more classic-wedding look? Research Red Rock National Park, Lake Las Vegas, Bear’s Best Las Vegas, or the Paiute Golf Resort. Summerlin, Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon, Blue Diamond, and Boulder City are all within 30 minutes of The Strip.

The Weather

The only reason we do not get snow in Vegas is because it doesn’t rain frequently. It gets cold enough and once in a while, we get some flurries. November – March, it’s very chilly outside. April and May are hit and miss. You might be at the pool, you might need a jacket. June – August days are 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, no questions asked. It is literally 110 degrees here or more every single day in July and August, even at night. We are not kidding, it can still be over 100 degrees outside at midnight during the summer months. September is hot with a few days of random lower temperatures. October varies every year, similar to May. If you are having an outdoor wedding, keep these things in mind. May and October are our recommendation for decent temperatures you can count on.

Now, let’s get down to the serious stuff. When we tell you it is extremely windy here, we are not exaggerating. The wind here will cancel recess at school. The wind here will shut down outdoor events. The wind here will blow so hard you think your windows are going to break. It doesn’t even have a predictable season; it is very windy here at least twice a week. If you are having an outdoor wedding, you MUST have a contingency plan for the wind. The rain? Not as much of a major concern. Mojave Desert, the end. However, when we do get legitimate rain a few times per year in Las Vegas, it RAINS. Monsoon-level, flood-the-streets downpour.
