Floral Design Disc: Foam-Free Mechanics
After a few years in the floral industry, we started to notice a pattern - florists debating the safety of floral foam and other traditional floral design mechanics. Many florists have gone completely foam-free and the use of floral foam - and its potential effects on the environment - is becoming more and more controversial.
This is where the concept for our Floral Design Disc was born. We wanted to create something that was made with non-toxic ingredients and was both reusable and safe to dispose of. We spent months testing different raw materials to develop a product that was sustainable, high quality, and useful. We're excited to introduce this product to both floral industry professionals and DIY flower enthusiasts.
Our Floral Design Discs are made with non-toxic materials, including eco-friendly beeswax, so they’re both reusable and safe to dispose of. Its ingredients are free from substances such as asbestos, lead, crystalline silica dust, dyes, plastics, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), latex, formaldehyde, and petroleum.*
In addition to this, the ingredients are ethically sourced. The raw materials used to make this product are procured from small businesses in the USA. The wax is domestic USA beeswax, sourced from a family-owned farm. When you purchase this product, you’re not only supporting our small business, but other American small businesses, as well.
Each disc has 45 holes in five different gauges. The largest gauge is for thick, woody stems like hydrangeas and roses. The smallest gauge is for filler stems like baby’s breath. Unlike a traditional pin frog, the Floral Design Disc can hold delicate, narrow stems. This design holds the stems in place for ikebana-style arrangements, while allowing water to reach the stems.

Why beeswax? Beeswax is a sustainable, biodegradable, non-toxic, natural wax. It’s sturdy, waterproof, and has a high heat tolerance. In addition to this, it has antimicrobial properties due to compounds such as squalene, 10-hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid, and flavonoids. When you use products made with beeswax from the USA, you help to support local beekeepers and honeybee populations, which are essential for flowers and plants.
